Role Overview / Details
As a Software Engineer I – Dev Tooling, you will be part of the Release Engineering team, responsible for developing and maintaining automated release pipelines and internal developer tools. Your work will directly impact how efficiently engineering teams build, test, deploy, and manage Sumo Logic’s services.
The role focuses on creating scalable tooling that supports continuous integration, continuous delivery, and automated deployments, enabling teams to own independently deployable services. You will contribute to Sumo Logic’s broader goal of strengthening its internal Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and improving overall software delivery quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines and release automation systems
- Build and enhance internal developer tools that support development, testing, debugging, and deployment workflows
- Work closely with senior engineers to implement DevOps and CI/CD best practices
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and technical problem-solving sessions
- Write clear and structured documentation explaining tools, workflows, and system behavior
- Support engineering teams by debugging tooling issues and providing technical guidance
- Continuously explore and adopt new technologies and automation techniques to improve developer productivity

Required Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals and basic software architecture concepts
- 0–1 year of software development experience (internships, academic projects, or hands-on practice included)
- Basic understanding of CI/CD concepts and tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar platforms
- Hands-on experience with at least one programming language such as Java, Scala, Golang, JavaScript, or Python
- Familiarity with JavaScript and modern web development concepts (React or Node.js is a plus)
- Exposure to build tools like npm, Gradle, Make, or similar
- Academic or project-level understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Basic scripting experience using Bash or Python
- Understanding of containerization concepts using Docker and Kubernetes
- Exposure to Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) or GitOps tools like ArgoCD is an added advantage
- Strong interest in DevOps, automation, and internal developer platforms
